Clean gutters twice a year
Spring and fall cleanings prevent clogs, overflow, and foundation damage. Kentuckiana's heavy leaf season makes fall especially important.
Check downspout extensions
Make sure water is directed at least 4–6 feet away from your foundation. Short or missing extensions are a leading cause of basement moisture.
Inspect after heavy storms
High winds and ice can pull gutters away from fascia. A quick visual check after major weather events can catch small problems before they become expensive repairs.
Look for standing water or sagging
Gutters should slope slightly toward downspouts. If you notice pooling water or visible sag, the hangers may need adjustment.
Keep screen room frames clean
Wipe down aluminum frames with mild soap and water each season. Check screen mesh for tears or loose edges and address them before pests find a way in.
Watch for rust or staining on fascia
Dark streaks below gutters often signal overflow from clogs or improper slope. Catching it early prevents rot and costly fascia replacement.
